So it's been almost eight weeks since our little guy made it into the world. Hard to believe its been that long already! Everyday has been such an amazing blessing. So we have it in one spot, I'd like to recap the past eight weeks...January 4th ~ Braxton is born.
We arrived at the hospital at 10AM for all of the pre-op procedures. We were admitted to a room right away. Out surgery was scheduled for 12:30, but we didn't end up going in until a bit later. I was taken in around 1:00 and by 1:17 Braxton was born. The surgery was done without any complications. Much to my relief. Despite maintaining a very steady exterior, I was extremely nervous. I was so scared something was going to happen. Not too mention nervous about the big change that was about to happen to our lives. I couldn't have been more happy though after I met our son. It's hard to put it into words...
So we were in the hospital that week until Thursday. Braxton wasn't latching properly for nursing so we took an extra day to work with the lactation consultant. THe hospital visiting policy at the time was only two visitors the entire stay. So Luke and my mom were the only two allowed to see us the whole time we were there. Luke actually went to work the day after he was born and the next day. Mom stayed with me throughout the day until he came back. We were lucky that we live so close and he was able to stay the night with us. It was a long week for all of us, but we finally were discharged Thursday. Mom and Dad came by with dinner (for a few nights!) that night. The next few days were a whirlwind of visitors. So many people came by to meet our little guy! Friends and family both. It didn't slow down until midweek the week after. Once it did we started to settle into somewhat of a routine...or at least try to!
We are so lucky, Braxton is such a great baby! He's pretty easy to please. Feed, change, sleep, play...start over...We couldn't have asked for a more perfect gift.
In the next couple of weeks he started gaining steam. We switched to bottle feeding with breast milk b/c of the troubles we were having. After we did that all of us were much happier! He started gaining weight the way he should which was the biggest concern. We also had his hip ultrasound and his hearing test to make sure both were ok. Because he was a breech baby, the hip ultrasound is a routine procedure. As is the hearing test. His right ear had referred in the hospital so a hearing test is also required to rule out any problem. He passed both with flying colors!!
We are so lucky that both Luke and I got to be home with him for a few weeks. Shortly after he was born, Luke got laid off for a few weeks which meant he got to stay home. It's been so nice! Luke is such an amazing father! He's absolutely perfect, just like I knew he would be. He's loving, affectionate, attentive. Braxton and I are SO incredibly lucky!
We keep saying we're living the life of retired people right now...If only we could keep that up for good. I am dreading the return to work...
Here are some updates on Braxton...
- He loves the shower! He showers with Dad almost daily and just loves it. Almost as much as Dad does :)
- He made his first trip to New York City and did GREAT! We went to visit Sean and Colleen and the kids. We rode the train, the subway AND visited the museum of Natural History. Can't wait to take him back there when he's older.
- At almost 7 weeks, he had his first overnight visit away from us...he stayed with Grandma and Grandpa while Mom and Dad were at a wedding. Poor Grandma was up all night! Apparently he missed us :)
- He has outgrown the small diapers we were sent home with.
- He already recognizes both Mom and Dad and smiles like crazy!! He's so observant.
- Loves hanging out in his backpack. Also likes the barn in his 'swing' dad made him.
-Sleeping about 3-4 hours at a time. Eating a bottle at the same frequency.
- Starting to sit up with little assistance.
So that's a brief summary. There is so much to write! I promise to do a better job of keeping up. I am also behind in pictures...I have a new baby ok? Cut me some slack!!
And another update - our new kitchen is coming soon! So is a new paint job AND new carpet for our upstairs!!! YAY! Luke and I are tackling these projects before I go back to work. It's going to be such an amazing transformation to the house. I PROMISE to have pics of those changes too.
Alright, off to take advantage of the little man's sleepy time...
